UNIT  12  THE  MIDDLE  AGES  VISIGOTH  KINGDOM

About 400 A.D. the Roman Empire weakened. Visigothic invaders entered the penindula from nothern Europe.
The Middle Ages go from the end of the Roman Empire (476 A.D.) to the discovering of America (1492).

VISIGOTHS
The Visigothic kingdom started in 476 A.D. and ended in 711 A.D. after the Muslim invasion.

They entered the Peninsula by the Pyrenees and settled Toledo as their capital city.



They adopted the Hispano-Roman culture:
  • language
  • religion: Christianity
  • law

They lived in villages, did not built cities and used the land for crop and livestock farming and pastures.
They were expert metalworkers.


In the Visigothic society there were nobles and church people who were rich and owned properties and territories, and land workers who had to work in the farms and pay to the nobles.
