UNIT 1 KINGDOMS OF LIFE
Organisms may be classified into groups to help to identify them.
The biggest groups into which living organisms are calssified into are called kingdoms.
The five kingdom system classifies living organisms into:
  • monera (also called prokaryota or bacteria)
  • protista (also called protoctista)
  • fungi
  • plantae
  • animalia
Each kingdom has certain characteristics that all members of that group shared.
The characteristics that Linnaeus used to divide all organisms into one of the five groups included:
  • How many cells made up their bodies, if their cells were very simple or had complex parts
  • If they can move on their own
  • If they could make their own food, or had to eat other creatures to survive ...

Next you can see one video explaining the classification into five kingdoms. It´s very short and you can read what they are saying:

In this one you can see a lovely presentation of the five kingdoms. It´s longer but you can also read the information, there are no speaking only music:

UNIT 1 ORGANISATION OF MULTICELLULAR LIVING THINGS
  • cells form tissues
  • tissues form organs
  • organs form systems
  • systems work together in an organism
  • organisisms are formed by cells

UNIT 1 CELLS
Cells are the smallest living units in a living thing.
The most important parts of a cell are:
  • membrane
  • nucleus
  • cytoplasm
  • cell wall (only in plant cells)

These are some examples of human cells:

UNIT  1  LIVING  THINGS
Living things are alive: people, animals and plants. These are the characteristics of living things:
  • they are born
  • they obtain energy (this has to be with nutrition)
  • they react (this is related to sensitivity)
  • they grow
  • they reproduce (this is reproduction)
  • they die
