UNIT  7   RIVERS

A river is a body of moving water. It has three stages in its life:
  • a river starts high in the mountains
  • then, the river flows over the surface
  • and finally the river ends into a sea, lake or another river
We can also distinguish three parts:
  • source: the beginning
  • course: the route
  • flow: amount of water
  • mouth: the end





















A river basin is an área of low land drained by a river and its tributaries.
Tributary = affluent: river or stream that flows into a main river o a lake (not sea or ocean).
Watershed: area where all the rivers flow into the same sea.
